Buttermilk Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Directions
Heat the oven to 400° F. Butter and sugar a 9-inch square baking dish.
Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat together the butter and sugar, then beat in the egg and vanilla. Alternate adding the buttermilk and dry ingredients. Pour the cake batter into the baking dish and level. Sprinkle a bit of sugar over the top, and bake for 25 minutes.
